As part of the medical we also try to assess any increased risk of heart disease. We do this by identifying any of the major risk factors available to us - i.e. smoking, high blood pressure, high glucose (sugar) and obesity. When we perform the medicals we also assess any family history of heart disease, and the cholesterol, if it is known; we often advise the person to follow this up themselves If any of the above heart risk factors are identified as being abnormal, the employee is referred back to their own Doctor for assessment and treatment.
If the company has its own health surveillance policy we can monitor and advise on risk reduction strategies and monitor progress. These precautions are for the worker’s own benefit, as if these risks are assessed and treatment advised, it will ensure a reduced risk for ill-health affecting their working life.
If there are issues with the vision and hearing results in the medical, the doctors may need to monitor these levels for the health and safety of the person in the working environment. |
